Project Summary:

Wedgwood Plaza is a retail center in Wayne, NJ. American Energy Technologies provided customer liaison and project management. TurtleEnergy designed a photovoltaic system to be installed on the retail center. Nu-Tek Roof Systems installed the 1080 Uni-Solar PVL 136w panels. VPV Electric completed the electrical work.

The project was originally a crystalline module project. TurtleEnergy took engineering advice that caused a change to the type of module used: the wind analysis for the site was not compatible with the use of a crystalline module. Consequently, TE redesigned the proposed photovoltaic system to use thin film modules. Nu-Tek Roofing Systems cleaned the existing standing seam metal roof and installed the 1080 Uni-Solar PVL 136W Modules directly to the roof. VPV Electric wired up the project and AET provided project management.

The project commenced in August of 2007 and the system was commissioned in January of 2008. The size of the PV system for Wedgwood Plaza is 147kW.

Fat Spaniel integrated Satcon inverter direct internet-based monitoring system was implemented and Fat Spaniel data acquisition illustrations show snapshots of the actual energy generation by the PV system for Wedgwood Plaza. These measurements are in compliance with the predicted analysis done by TurtleEnergy and in some cases exceed the target energy output range. Data monitoring results are available both on a real-time and historical basis. Measurements can be viewed on daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or lifetime intervals. The installed PV system has successfully helped reduce the on-grid energy usage.

TurtleEnergy undertook a detailed assessment of the site that included:

  • Preconstruction Shading Analysis of the proposed roofscape
  • Optimal System Design and Redesign to suit the location
  • Coordination of roofing with roof mounted PV module layout
  • Coordination of the proprietary mounting hardware for the solar panels with the Manufacturer and the Design Team
  • Multi-Disciplinary Coordination with Architects, Civil Engineers, Structural Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Facility Managers
